The contribution lawyers make to transforming local government, services and communities should never be underestimated.

This award recognises and rewards a Council Legal Department, which demonstrates exceptional value for money for the Council by delivering on a (or a series of) great contribution(s) which make a long lasting and real difference to people, the local economy, the law and / or the legal profession.

It may cover any aspect of a Council’s activities or be through innovative partnership(s) with others.

Criteria

The judges will be particularly looking for:

  • Innovation & creativity – evidence of the Legal Department making a positive long term difference to the Council, the partnership(s) or the locality through novel or new ways of working.
  • Great leadership and management – evidence that the activity was effectively led, planned, delivered and monitored, along with demonstrable favourable reviews/feedback from customers/user.
  • Impact and value for money- evidence that the intended outcomes have been achieved, including the identification of the substantial savings and/or increased income generated for the Council.
