How to Enter
Entering is free & easy. Once you are ready to submit your entry (guidelines for submissions is 2,000 words & 1,000 for Children's Services) online simply click on CATEGORIES and click on the category you would like to enter. Click the 'Click to nominate' button at the bottom and enter your email address. If you’ve nominated or put your details in before, the system will automatically recognise your email address and take you directly to the uploading your file page. If not then please enter your contact details.
To upload a nomination simply create a file containing your nomination in either a word or pdf format, save to your system, click on the browse button, find your file and attach your nomination. You can also include an optional 100 words to accompany your nomination in the box at the bottom. That’s it!
Please note, you cannot go in and save your submission. Uploading your submission should only happen once you have completed it.
Once your submission has been uploaded to our system you will receive an automated email confirming your nomination has been successfully received. If not please contact p.sabin@hgluk.com 0207 973 6689 who can check to see if your nomination has gone through.

The Judging process
All nominations will be shortlisted by the panel of 3 judges industry specific for that category, see the judges tab to see who. Judges have 4 weeks to agree on a shortlist of 6-8 local authorities plus any they would like to commend.
If you have been short listed you may be invited for a interview between March – April 2011 where you will be given the opportunity to give a 15 minute presentation followed by a 15 minute Q&A session. One winner and any highly commended are decided at this stage.
Rules and guidelines
Entries are welcome from all local authorities across the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
Applicants may enter more than one category.
Nominations can be made online and should be around 2,000 words (1,000 for Children's Services) to be considered by the judges. Entries exceeding or below the word limit may be disqualified. Each entry needs to describe the achievement and in particular support their entry with proof of its success and customer feedback.
A brief summary of up to 100 words can accompany each entry. You must adhere to your individual category criteria addressing each of the key evidence points that the judges are looking for.
General criteria for submissions
The judges will be looking for the following from submissions:
- Innovation
- Imagination and ambition
- Evidence of a good clear strategy for the project or policy
- Evidence of good management
- Evidence the strategy was clearly communicated to staff and other stakeholders
- Value for money
- Supporting evidence that the project/policy has made a difference to customers
- Evidence it has achieved or is well on the way to achieving what it set out to do
Submissions should include descriptions of how the project or policy came into being, how it fits in with the overall strategy of the authority and how it has been shown to enhance service provision.
Please bear in mind that supporting documentation may not always be taken into consideration on top of the main submission at Stage 1.
