Legal services are a vital part of a local authority. They help ensure services can be delivered, protect the public, encourage innovation and maximise efficiency.
This award recognises council legal departments or consortia/partnerships of council legal departments which can demonstrate innovation and show real outcomes in terms of a better service for the authority and the public.
The entry can cover any aspect of a council’s services and activities from housing, regeneration and consumer protection to helping to provide a strategic partnership or new delivery model.
The judges will be particularly looking for:
- Innovation & creativity – evidence of the legal department making a positive long term difference to the council, the partnership(s) or the locality through novel or new ways of working.
- Leadership and management – evidence that the activity was effectively led, planned, delivered and monitored, along with demonstrable favourable reviews/feedback from customers/user.
- Impact and value for money- evidence that the intended outcomes have been achieved, including the identification of any savings and/or increased income generated for the council
